High-Performance Pure Iron Forgings for Demanding Applications
What Are Pure Iron Forgings?
Our pure iron forgings are near-100% iron components, manufactured through a controlled hot forging process. This method aligns the grain structure of the high-purity iron, significantly enhancing its magnetic and physical properties compared to cast or machined alternatives. The result is a component with exceptional ductility, high magnetic permeability, and superior performance in critical electromagnetic applications.
Key Features & Material Advantages
Exceptional Magnetic Softness: Extremely high magnetic permeability and very low coercive force, ensuring minimal core loss and high efficiency in magnetic circuits.
Superior Purity: Our specialized refining processes (e.g., vacuum melting, electro-slag re-melting) ensure iron content of 99.8% and above, drastically reducing trace elements like Carbon, Silicon, Manganese, and Sulfur that degrade magnetic performance.
Enhanced Structural Integrity: The forging process produces a continuous grain flow, increasing tensile strength, fatigue resistance, and impact toughness.
Excellent Ductility and Machinability:Allows for post-forging machining and forming to achieve precise final dimensions and complex geometries without cracking.
Good Corrosion Resistance: Performs well in controlled environments. Can be further enhanced with plating or coating as required.
Q: How does forged pure iron differ from cold-rolled pure iron or low-carbon steel?
A: While cold-rolled iron sheet is excellent for laminations, forgings provide superior strength and a isotropic (uniform in all directions) magnetic property. Forging creates a unidirectional grain flow, ideal for components like yokes and poles that experience mechanical stress. Compared to low-carbon steel, our pure iron has drastically lower carbon and impurity content, which is essential for high magnetic permeability.
Q: Can pure iron forgings be welded or brazed?
A: Yes, but it requires expert techniques. Pure iron is very ductile and can be welded using TIG or MIG methods with compatible filler rods. However, welding can create a heat-affected zone (HAZ) with altered grain structure and magnetic properties. We recommend consulting our engineers for specific welding procedures to maintain part integrity.
Q: What surface finishes and tolerances can you achieve?
A: We provide forgings in various conditions: as-forged, rough machined, or finished machined to tight tolerances (typically IT8-IT10 as forged, and IT6-IT7 after machining). Standard surface finishes range from 6.3 to 12.5 μm Ra. Specific finishes and tolerances can be achieved based on your technical drawings.
Q: Do you offer anti-corrosion coatings?
A: Absolutely. While pure iron has better corrosion resistance than carbon steel, it can still oxidize. We offer various plating options (such as zinc, nickel, or tin) and phosphating or painting services to meet your environmental requirements.
Q: What is your minimum order quantity (MOQ)?
A: We cater to both prototyping needs and large-scale production runs. Our MOQ is flexible, but cost-effectiveness improves with larger volumes. Contact us with your requirements for a tailored quote.
